Who is Coach Chris?

Hi, I’m Chris.

I’m a personal trainer, coach, and someone who genuinely believes that getting stronger can change much more than just the way you look.

For me, training has never been simply about lifting weights or working up a sweat. It’s about understanding why you’re doing something, how to do it well, and how to make progress over time.

That’s something I didn’t always understand

Where It All Started

My journey into fitness began around 20 years ago when I was at university in England studying Sports and Exercise Psychology.

Alongside university, I worked part-time in a health club. Being around the gym every day gave me an interesting perspective. I watched hundreds of people train, and I noticed something that included me:

Most of us were simply winging it.

We’d turn up, choose the exercises we liked, work hard, get a good sweat on and leave feeling like we’d had a productive workout.

But very few of us really understood what we were trying to achieve or why we were training the way we were.

At the time, my own goals were pretty simple. I wanted to become a better soccer player, while also looking as good as I possibly could.

I trained hard, but I never quite achieved the physique or athletic performance I was looking for. I was constantly unsure whether I was training in the right way for soccer, and I didn’t really understand how to structure my training to get the results I wanted.

Looking back, that uncertainty was actually the beginning of my interest in coaching.

From Training Myself to Coaching Others

After graduating, I moved to Canada and spent several years working different jobs. Eventually, as my own soccer career began to wind down, I found my way back into personal training. That’s when things really changed.

I started diving much deeper into training. I became fascinated by how much there was to learn about getting stronger, improving movement, building muscle, managing fatigue, developing fitness and, most importantly, helping an individual person make consistent progress.

The more I learned, the more I wanted to understand.

And the more people I trained, the more I realized that I didn’t just enjoy training…

I loved coaching.

I loved taking something that could seem complicated and making it simple for someone.

I loved seeing a client perform an exercise better than they could a few months earlier.

I loved watching someone become stronger, fitter and more confident.

And I especially loved seeing those changes carry over into the rest of their life.

Why I Do What I Do

Over the years, I’ve learned that most people don’t need more information. They need a clear plan, good coaching, consistency and someone who understands how to adapt the plan to them.

That’s what I try to provide.

My job isn’t to make every workout exhausting. It’s not to throw random exercises at you or make you feel destroyed after every session.

It’s to understand where you are now, where you want to go, and then build a training process that gets you there efficiently.

Sometimes that means getting stronger.

Sometimes it means losing body fat.

Sometimes it means moving better, building confidence in the gym or getting back to activities you enjoy.

And often, it’s all of those things together.

One of the most rewarding parts of my job is watching clients become stronger, healthier and more energized versions of themselves month after month. Helping someone feel better in their body and more capable in their everyday life gives me an enormous amount of satisfaction.

That’s why I still love what I do.

My Approach to Training

I don’t believe there is one perfect training program.

The best program is the one that makes sense for you.

Your age, training history, goals, schedule, lifestyle, injuries, preferences and the things you actually enjoy doing all matter.

My role is to take all of that information and turn it into a structured plan.

I want you to understand what you’re doing and why you’re doing it, while making sure you aren’t wasting time on things that don’t move you towards your goals.

The goal is to make you better.

Stronger.
Fitter.
More capable.
More confident.

And ideally, someone who actually enjoys training.

Who I Work Best With

I particularly enjoy working with people who are busy, motivated and want their training to have a purpose.

Many of my clients are professionals who have demanding careers, families and busy schedules. They don’t necessarily want to spend hours in the gym.

They want to know that the time they invest in training is worth it.

If you’re looking for someone to simply count your reps while you exercise, I probably won’t be the right trainer for you.

But if you want someone who will understand your goals, teach you how to train properly, track your progress and continually adjust your training as you improve, we may be a very good fit.

Life Outside the Gym

I think getting to know your trainer as a person matters.

I’m not someone who believes fitness should take over your entire life. Training is important to me, but it’s also something that should help you enjoy everything else that life has to offer.

Soccer has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. I support Newcastle United in the Premier League so if you know them you’ll score browny points… but you’ll still have to do Bulgarian split squats… sorry!

Hiking and camping has recently become a large part of my summer. My little boy seems to love it so anything that keeps him happy and not crying or having a tantrum is a god send!

I love be out in the sun, yes I love the gym but give me a chance to workout in the sun and I’ll be there in a second. The guilt of being inside during a sunny Vancouver day is overwhelming, probably because we see the sun for 2 months of the year!

Any docu-series on Netflix; Tinder Swindler, Titan; Oceangate Disaster, Our Planet, The Last Dance, Shipwrecked, MH370.. you name it and we’ll deep dive into it!

So, Why Choose Me?

There are plenty of personal trainers in Vancouver.

I don’t expect to be the right choice for everyone.

But if you’re looking for a coach who genuinely cares about doing things properly, who continues to learn, and who wants to understand you rather than simply put you through a workout, that’s what I bring to the table.

I’ve spent more than a decade coaching people, but I’m still fascinated by training.

I’m still learning.

I’m still experimenting.

And I still get a huge amount of satisfaction from seeing someone achieve something they couldn’t do six months earlier.

That’s what keeps me coaching.

If you’re ready to stop guessing and start following a training plan built around you, I’d love to hear from you.
